smiling now

Mom's passing was to me, like a slow motion winter sunset into a calm vast ocean.
The brightness was gone, fading to a glimmer and as the intensity went down the subtleties of light and dark began to play on the screen that is the sky. as the changes came we had to look for them, appreciate them, cement them in our memories so that when it was dark and cold we would know that we had gotten every bit of that last great light show.

our eyes could not see what was really happening, and that is where faith in God and His word come to repair our poor vision.
we live in the now, and see only what is here, yet we long for and dream of what is there, beyond the horizon of life's span.
God's messengers have brought us a great gift and we will be advised not just to own a copy, but to open it. We need to be sure of who we are in Him, and sure of what we believe. We must test His promises to know that He is still the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Mom's life of faith taught me to respect these abiding principles: Perseverance, peace, patience and praise.

Psalm 34:1 "I will extol the Lord at all times, His praise will always be on my lips."

Its wonderful to see Mom smiling in all these photos. As she neared Gloryland - her face seemed to reflect it.

I have been with many people close to heaven, but few have displayed such smiles. My aunt Sybil was always smiling and so happy.

David, your mother had the sweetest countenance. May she rest in peace.

I was going to say "not so young friend" and then opened to the picture of your smiling (old) mother and I did feel young.

David I am so sorry your mom is gone. My own mother's health is very fragile now and we believe she is in her last year or two.

I love what you said about not just owning a copy but opening it. I do not have the same degree of faith as you but I have experienced the grace present around death and I know that there is a lot more going on than meets the eye.

Your mother was beautiful. Her own smiling face is a comfort.

This is a beautiful tribute in the midst of a painful time. It makes me think of what arriving in Heaven must be like for your Mom. The shedding of a painful earthly body and receiving a Heavenly body that is as painless and strong as a young woman. Can you imagine how that transition must feel? Yes, I would be smiling, and she is too.
