Timothy Paul Gilbert - project 2996

For a moment I thought it was a mistake
Then I prayed it was not real
a show, a fiction, a play.
My world never will be the same
I lost something on Sept 11, 2001
we all did.
I thought I knew some of the pain
when I walked near Ground Zero in October
the smells, the sounds. smoke still coming from the pile.
All of us were in a daze, pictures and names on windows and walls
went on for blocks. we walked in the night as strong men worked
to uncover what was left of the thousands buried there.
we saw that small chapel, I forget its name,
where people came to pray and cry and ask why
we were able to leave and go home and hug our children
so many never get to walk away
don't feel loves strong embrace
when I started to read their stories
I think I am JUST NOW getting a tiny picture
of what a horrible and tragic day that was
9-11-01
c. ds 2006

In my effort to honor Timothy Paul Gilbert I am sharing
these comments which were posted by friends of his on a commemoration page:

"It has taken me 2 years to be able to say goodbye to all those I knew
at Cantor Fitz. I had the honor & privilege of working and sitting side
by side with Tim for the first couple of years he come to the NY
office. My prayers are with him, his family & all those whose lives he
touched. Keep shining down on us from heaven Tim
May god bless you & keep you."
------------------------
"Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. We have suffered a great
loss. You were one of the greatest men I have ever known. You would
always make me laugh, and you were so down to earth. You were always
such a pleasure to be around. You will never be forgotten. Tim, when I
see your children, I see you. When I see Jackie, you are there. You
were the greatest dad, and such a loving husband. I have been blessed
to have known you, and miss you so much."

"God Bless the Gilbert Family."

I never did sign up for that one- Cause I expect to be working, which is where I was the day when it happened (at a different Company). Wish had more time! I've got a daughter's B-day this week n a wedding in New Hamphire my next days off, so I'm all tied up trying to get ready for it all with a bad knee...

It's a great idea tho- I'll be back to read it!

Hi. Michele sent me. Being in Minnesota and having no friends or family on the east coast, I don't really have any one person about whom I should write. I will never forget, though. We can't let that happen.

Nice tribute David. I'll be writing mine this weekend.

Update: I was so inspired as I read the 2996 website, your tribute, and that of others, that I signed up at the last minute. And it feels good!!!

Hope your son is feeling better, by the way.

Great tribute David! I'll be writing mine tomorrow. I think it's awesome that the blogosphere is pulling together to remember these people in a way outside of Hollywood propaganda and media lime-light. Just honest, every day people remembering honest, every day individuals just like ourselves.

I know I'll never forget them, and the least I can do is show that.

David,
thanks for dropping by Sanity's Bluff.....
Your kind comment brought me here to your blog, and all I can say is.....wow.....the energy of this effort of yours and all the rest of the 2,996 gang of rememberance will be historical. Never have so many good people joined together in rememberance of those that perished because of......well let's call it what is was, and still is....evil and hatred of others.
The msm (mean spirited media) could never accomplish what 2,996 bloggers have. Your contribution is great.and is noted, we are all in this together....it is now the early morning hours of 9/10/06, and many bloggers have already posted their tributes. My tribute to Frank Koester will stay at the top of my blog for awhile.
And frankly,it feels good to be a part of spreading hope through hope. What I mean is, the more I read of the innocent victims of that horrific day....I am sure America is doing the right thing in having our wonderful young men and women warriors....all over the globe hunting down killers who target innocent people. The 2,996 didn't die in collateral damage, they were the targets......civilians were the target.....Now we have honored all of those victims, retribution is coming, if it hasn't already showed up at the killers world trade center.....

That would be a used camel lot in the deserts of Iraq.

Been up too long...

You have added a lot to this effort.

From now on, my blog visits will be limited to those bloggers of the 2,996 project...

What a group of good people.

Blessings all the way around.

John, aka webloafer

Good job! Must've been tough watching the smoke,n finding actual comments to post on Tim Gilbert.
I went to the site in December, on my road-trip way down Rt 95 to Florida, which I'd have never done if not for how that day changed me.

Glad I got today off so I could Blog-surf here!

Thank you for doing this very moving tribute. Taking part in the 2996 Project has been really emotional, first researching, then writing, and now reading the other tributes.

I have posted a tribute honoring Sgt. Michael Curtin, a NYPD officer who willingly walked into collapsing buildings on a rescue mission five years ago. His body was recovered from the rubble of Ground Zero in March 2002. So many lost lives, so many heroes.

Thanks for sharing that.

People often dont realise but death makes us more thankful of the life we have. Everytime i've lost someone close to me, im saddened by the loss of them, but im also thankful of how it reminds me of how much i really have in comparison. And on occasion, it can sometimes lead to some pretty heavy conversation about God with people.

Its always a mind opening time when visiting your blog, David.

Take Care.
Im sorry for the loss of the people you knew in the WTC.

The man dubbed 'The Falling Man' who was captured as he fell out of one of the WTC's is always on my mind when i think of the WTC.

Sept 11th means so much to different people, it hit a lot of people around the globe.

I'm sadden that it happened and that people want to go to ground zero just to say they have been there. I was there 4 years before and got a chance to walk into the towers however 3 years later I went back to nyc I did not want to walk near ground zero as I wanted to remember the good and not the bad.

This date also marks what would have been my folks anniversary. Its also a good friends birthday.

We need to start thinking about what good as come from this but still remember the past.
