the Bird bath

I made this from concrete. I had it at the other house, and moved it here. within two days of filling it the yard was full of all kinds of birds drinking at my portable "fountain". i try not to worry about the birds in the old place missing their drink, but I am glad that I get to share my water and my yard with so many chirping friends.
It got me to thinking, like almost everything does. That caused me to take this picture, and then of course I bring it to blogland for inspiration and entertainment.

Where is the water in my life? What vessel holds refreshment for others and how do I place it where they can get the most from it? How glad I have been to drink at the well of others through this last several seasons. You know who you are, as I will not withhold my comments if I get sustenance from your blog or email, or IM's. So when I get filled and am refreshed, then I need to "put something out there" for the other thirsty souls. I am so thankful for a conversation I had with a new friend this morning, and the courage and boldness that I was given to say strong words and to pray a prayer of direction for this dear one. I trust that God will use our time for His eternal good, and raise up a hedge of protection around this daughter of His and her young family. Posted by Picasa

hello -- visiting from michele's today. your fountain for birds to drink from is lovely. i agree with you on the blogging -- we all put stuff out there for others to drink in...or read it and decide they are not thirsty after all! :-)

Awesome little fountain... not following the biblical connection, but hey. That's just me.

I appreciate you stopping by my blog today. I think I'll link yours and pay you a periodic visit. Looks like you've got some good stuff here.

PS This is going to sound like I'm on the defensive, but to the contrary, I'm with you on the Starbucks issue - Three reasons why I stop there

a: I'm South American, thus a cultural coffee drinker.
b: It's the first coffee place I see in the 9.2 minutes I have between dropping off my son to Pre-K and getting to work
and c: They take debit cards without a $3 minimum like the locally owned joints. I NEVER have cash.

Good analogy - thanks. ec

A bird bar is always a fun contribution to the natural world in an urban setting. My birds spend hours telling stories and wetting their whistles.

What a good man you are, or seem to be. Visiting by Michele's tonight. Keep those birds watered.

I love having the birds in the yard, watching them at the feeders and listening to their songs; It's so peaceful.

Love the analogy. If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink...words that offer life because Jesus also said that if anyone drinks from the Living Water he will not be thirsty anymore (or something to that effect). In sharing Jesus with others, we are offering the Living Water to others, to quench their thirst.

THIS IS SO COOL I'M SO INTO CONCRETE STUFF AND TILE.. I MADE A BIRDBATH USING THE LID OF A TRASH CAN TO CREATE A BOWL.. I LOVE TO BIRDWATCH AND PHOTOGRAPH BIRDS.. HOW DID YOU GET THE ORANGE COLOR IN THE CONCRETE WITH CONCRETE COLOR?

thank you all for your continuing to overflow my bowl with kind words.
mreddie and shelly picked up on the LIVING water idea. up here - water is life, if you put some out, drinkers will appear ( coyote, dog, squirrel, coon)
Sister, the coloration was green, then it faded, then an algae grew in there and stained it red I like it, sort of like tie dye. Thanks for all chirping at me, I feel the love.

We have "SugarBush Mtn" here, downEast in Maine. Good skiing right now, if ya don't mind frostbite. Down to 4 degrees this am... Maybe less at the higher altitude...

I like the sentiment in this entry. It's amazing that something as seemingly inconsequential as a bird bath can be the catalyst for altruistic thought and action. Nicely done.

In order to draw more birds, consider using a fountain bird bath instead of a traditional bird bath that holds still water. Birds love the sound of running water and prefer fountain bird baths dramatically over still bird baths. Find out more about leaf bird bath

What better place to put a bath for your birds than up in the trees? Choose a hanging bird bath that will suspend in your trees so that your birds will not have to leave home to get a drink of water or take a bath. Consider hanging a bird bath near a window so that you can enjoy the birds while they splish and splash. Find out more about bird experiment watching
